Before you begin

Filing internally with EOCO does not waive your right to file externally with the Illinois Department of Human Rights (IDHR) or the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC). External agencies have strict statutory deadlines — generally 300 days from the adverse action for EEOC.

What you'll need

  • Your CPS staff ID, school/department, supervisor name, and hire date
  • The protected-class basis for your complaint (race, sex, disability, pregnancy, retaliation, etc.)
  • The specific adverse employment action and date
  • Names of witnesses or documents that support your account
  • Any external IDHR or EEOC charge number (if already filed)

Confidentiality & retaliation

CPS prohibits retaliation against any employee who files a complaint in good faith. Your complaint will be shared only with EOCO investigators, your designated HR partner, and (as required) the respondent and assigned decision-maker.
